While the Ryanair Afrikaans test debacle has left many a South African seething, SA comedian Barry Hilton took to social media to post his ‘own version’ of the test.
Barry Hilton puts South Africans to the test
Following the indignation over Ryanair’s Afrikaans test prerequisite for passengers flying with them, South African comedian Barry Hilton decided to create his own ‘test’ on how to prove ones South African-ness. He posted his 14 hilarious questions on Facebook last week, with side-splitting results.
On the Facebook post, Hilton said: My Afrikaans is limited but I think I’ve managed to translate the Ryan Air questionnaire being given to South African passport holders! What do you think?
These are the questions that followed:

- 9. Is Boerewors a sausage or part of a Boer?
- 10. What is another name for a cat?
- 11. How is travel distance measured in South Africa
- 12. Complete the sentence: I gave him a ……….klap

South Africans react
The post garnered many reactions and comments, with South Africans responding in typical good-humoured SA fashion, most even saying they could definitely answer all the questions asked!
