Table Mountain Cableway to shut down
The Table Mountain Aerial Cableway Company (TMACC) recently announced that their cable car operations would be halted for five weeks at the end of July to allow for scheduled maintenance work to be done at the upper and lower stations and cabins.
According to the Cableway Company, the maintenance process for this year is extensive and complex. The five-week shutdown, therefore, is considered necessary as the scheduled maintenance cannot be carried out between normal operations.

Wahida Parker, Managing Director at TMACC, said that industry safety standards required a more comprehensive closure this year (2022), in order to ensure the required work is done properly.
Emile Streicher, the Executive Manager of Technical at the company explained which areas would specifically be targeted in the maintenance.
“The focus for this year will be on the track-ropes which carry the majority of the weight of the cablecars, along with the brackets from which the cabins are suspended, and the hydraulic braking system situated at the Lower Station,” he said.
“Servicing is done according to a service schedule which is time, usage, and condition-based. Many of the specified service intervals are more than six years and servicing tasks usually differ from year to year,” he added.
According to Times Live, all cable car operations are scheduled to be suspended from 25 July to 28 August 2022. Food and beverage sales at the lower station, however, are still expected to continue.
Hikers will also still be allowed to make their way up and down the mountain by foot.
