In a recent study published by Forbes, some European countries are decidedly safer to visit than others. This study takes into account several factors, including crime rates, pollution levels as well as healthcare in order to determine the safest destinations.
According to these factors, Forbes ranked the following countries as safest:
- Switzerland
- Slovenia
- Portugal
- Austria
- Germany
- Spain
- Czech Republic
SchengenVisaInfo reports that Switzerland, evaluated with a grade of 88.3, was chosen as the safest country in Europe as they enjoy the best health care system on the continent, some of the best bathing waters and among the lowest pollution levels.

Next on the list, Forbes featured Slovenia, with a 82.3 grade, for its low crime rate and beautiful bathing places. Portugal took the third spot, rated a 82.1, for its low levels of pollution, high water quality and a good level of health care.
According to a Forbes Advisor spokesman, security is a very important factor for travellers who are planning their vacation. At the same time, these figures show that there are significant differences across Europe when measuring factors such as bathing water quality or levels of crime.
