Emirates recently updated its interline agreement with CemAir, now offering more domestic connections within South Africa.
CemAir and Emirates’ interline agreement: What is it?
Back in August 2021, Emirates Airline signed an interline or codeshare agreement with local South African, CemAir, effectively allowing Emirates passengers to book a single itinerary for flying aboard CemAir domestic flights beyond Johannesburg and Cape Town to eight destinations within South Africa.Â
These eight local destinations were Bloemfontein, Kimberley, Margate, Durban, Hoedspruit, Plettenberg Bay, George and Sishen.Â
Now, Emirates has announced that they will be expanding to include more CemAir domestic sectors within South Africa and a new regional sector between Johannesburg and Luanda, Angola.
What are the new connections?
According to Travel News, the connections now under the interline agreement are CemAir’s sectors between Johannesburg and the following destinations:
- Bloemfontein,
- Kimberley,
- Margate,
- Hoedspruit,
- Plettenberg Bay,
- Cape Town,
- George,
- Durban,
- Port Elizabeth,
- Sishen and
- Luanda
Other new inclusions in the interline agreement will be CemAir’s routes between Cape Town and Plettenberg Bay, Hoedspruit and Durban, as well as flights between Durban and Bloemfontein.

Emirates also signs deal with South African Tourism
South African Tourism and Emirates also recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in order to jointly promote tourist arrivals in the country. The deal was signed to mutually help promote and boost tourist arrivals and inbound traffic to South Africa from central markets across the Emirates network.
Under the Memorandum, Emirates will explore ways to promote South Africa and encourage travelers to experience the beauty and number of incredible attractions that South Africa has to offer.
Emirates currently serves South Africa with 26 weekly flights, including double daily services to Johannesburg, daily services to Cape Town and five weekly flights to Durban.
The airline also already has either interline or codeshare pacts with three other South African airlines, including Airlink, Flysafair and South African Airways.
