Champagne connoisseurs get ready: after a two-year break, the Johannesburg Cap Classique & Champagne Festival is back this April.
The popular weekend-long event will be taking place on 9 April and 10 April, from 11:00 to 16:00 at The Inanda Polo Club in Sandton. The event will be sponsored by Sanlam Private Wealth and highlight some of South Africa’s best Méthode Cap Classiques, a selection of France’s best champagne houses as well as some favourite Italian prosecco brands.
A Champagne celebration
Bear in mind that this year’s themed dress code is ‘Blue and White’ and there will be best dressed awards given out on both days! Food will also be available from a variety of stalls and stations and live music courtesy of Veronique Lalouette will ensure that guests will be swaying not just from the champagne.
Johannesburg Cap Classique & Champagne Festival organiser, Darielle Robertson said:
“We are so excited to be back in Gauteng with what has proved to be an enormously popular festival. This year we have bubbly from the likes of L’Ormarins, Siwela Wines, Bon Courage, La Bri, and Graham Beck as well as champagnes from Taittinger, Bollinger and Nicolas Feuillatte, with more to be announced soon.”
Robertson went on to add:
“The festival will have an elegant, chic garden party feel with a blue and white dress theme and a fabulous prize of an Okapi handbag awarded each day to the best dressed.”
What is Cap Classique?
Adopted in South Africa in 1992, the term simply refers to South African sparkling wines made in the traditional French method (methode champenoise), and then called Methode Cap Classiques (MCC) or Cap Classiques.
The term was created in response to the ban on the use of the words ‘Champagne’ and ‘Champenoise’ for any bottle-fermented wine made outside of the Champagne region in France.
