Like several parts of South Africa, the Eastern Cape is experiencing snowfall as a cold front continues. The South African Weather Service (SAWS) issued an alert of freezing weather raging across the country, with the cold conditions expected at least until Tuesday, 11 July 2023.

SNOW IN EASTERN CAPE PROMPTS ROAD CLOSURES
Due to the snow, the Eastern Cape Department of Transport closed the R61 Wappasberg pass, between Graaff-Reinet and Cradock on Monday morning, 10 July 2023.
“Very cold conditions are expected across the Eastern Cape on Sunday, with snowfalls possible over the high lying areas,” the SAWS said.
In addition, widespread frost is expected in the province on Tuesday.
According to the SAWS, other parts of the country will also see snowfall.
“Very cold conditions are expected over parts of Gauteng, Mpumalanga and Limpopo (mainly on Monday, but already over southern Gauteng and the southern Highveld of Mpumalanga on Sunday). Light snowfall is possible over the extreme eastern Highveld regions and the escarpment of Mpumalanga on Monday, where maximum temperatures will be below 7°C,” the SAWS said.
