In a bid to encourage tourism in the city, Abu Dhabi has revised and reduced certain tourism fees imposed on tourists. Here’s more details…
Abu Dhabi makes moves towards more tourism
The Emirate’s Department of Culture and Tourism recently announced that the government taxes paid by hotels and tourists would be reduced to support growth in the hospitality and tourism sector, starting 1 September.

According to Travel News, this fee reduction includes that of:
- a tourism fee issued to customers, which will drop from 6% to 4% of the total value of the customer’s hotel invoice,
- the removal of a municipality fee of Dh15 (R79) per room per night,
- a 6% tourism fee and a 4% municipal fee applying to hotel restaurants.

A new levy for Bali tourists
On the other side of the coin, tourists to Bali will now have to fork out a tourist fee before entry into the country.

The new entry fee, said to be implemented from February 2024, will be used to to fund sustainability efforts on the island including coral reef conservation, mangrove rehabilitation and other projects.

The fee will cost IDR150 000 or R183 per person for entry to Bali and will have to be paid before or at the time of arrival.
