Airlink is set to launch a brand new route between Durban and Gqeberha next month, starting 4 April.
The scheduled flights will run everyday, except on Saturdays, with two flights available on Wednesdays. According to Travel News, this will be Airlink’s third route servicing Gqeberha, formerly known as Port Elizabeth. The airline already has routes to the Eastern Cape coastal city from Cape Town and Johannesburg. In the same way, Airlink also provides services from Durban to cities including Johannesburg, Harare and Mbombela.
Rodger Foster, Airlink CEO and MD, said:
“This latest expansion of our comprehensive route network will promote economic activity between the two metropoles and their market catchment areas. These cover the KwaZulu Natal North and South Coasts as well as Eastern Cape cities and towns such as Coega, Kariega (Uitenhage), Makhanda (Grahamstown) and popular tourist destinations such as Port Alfred, Jeffreys Bay, Cape St Francis and the Garden Route,”
Airlink flight schedules
Flight schedules for the new Durban-Gqeberha route are as follows:
- On Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, flights depart Durban at 06:15 and arrives in Gqeberha at 07:45.
- The return flights for these days will then depart Gqeberha at 08:15 and arrives in Durban at 09:45.
- On Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays, flights depart Durban at 16:20 and arrives in Gqeberha at 17:40.
- Returns for these days will depart Gqeberha at 18:25 and arrives in Durban at 19:55.
Tickets go on sale for this new route today, 8 March.
Flights will be operated by modern Embraer Regional Jets. Economy-class fares will include 20kg free checked-in luggage as well as a 15kg sporting equipment allowance. On board, passengers will be treated to a complimentary light meal, refreshments, ample leg-room and a choice of Airlink’s familiar aisle or window seat.
