Not just one, but TWO iconic South African hotels have taken top spots on TripAdvisor’s Travelers’ Choice Best of the Best Hotels in Africa list…

As per TripAdvisor’s 2022 Travelers’ Choice Best of the Best listing, two South African hotel gems have been placed on the ‘Top 25 Hotels in Africa’ index. The two spots were taken by Stellenbosch’s Lanzerac Hotel & Spa at number 18, and Umhlanga’s famous Oyster Box at number 19.
These travelers’ Choice Best of the Best awards are the highest achievement of excellence that the travel industry recognises, so having being featured on the list is a big deal indeed! Here’s what TripAdvisor had to say about these fabulous hotels…
Lanzerac Hotel & Spa
According to the travel company, “the historic Lanzerac Hotel & Spa is the perfect base from which to explore SA’s most famous winelands. With 53 luxurious bedrooms, this country Estate exudes an air of intimacy and provides the ultimate in personalized service.”
The Lanzerac’s history dates back to 1692, lending boat-loads of old-world charm and rich Cape heritage to the establishment.

The Oyster Box
The stunning Oyster Box hotel featured at number 19 and it’s not difficult to see why it made the prestigious list. According to TripAdvisor, “The Oyster Box is one of South Africa’s most celebrated hotels, as famous for its remarkable coastal views as the understated luxury and gracious hospitality that have become the hallmarks of this cherished seaside destination.”
The Oyster Box is rated an impressive five stars for its beautiful location along KwaZulu-Natal’s North Coast.

Kirstenbosch Garden also ranked the ‘Best of the Best’
Other South African spots that received ‘Best of the Best’ ratings was Cape Town’s very own Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden, regarded as the top one percent of ‘things to do’ in the world.
The V&A Waterfront was also awarded a Travelers’ Choice Best of the Best award, while Groot Constantia, Cape Point and the Cableway received a Travelers Choice Award – placing these three attractions in the top 10 percent.
