The InterContinental Hotel Group (IHG) has officially launched their very first Voco hotel in Rosebank, Johannesburg.
The IHG’s luxury Voco hotel brand has finally been brought to African shores, with the opening of their luxury hotel in the trendy suburb of Rosebank Johannesburg on 1 February. With more than 20 unique Voco hotels throughout the world and numerous hotel brands under their belt, the InterContinental Hotel Group is known for their industry expertise.
A Voco first for Africa
According to TravelNews, the name Voco, originates from Latin and means ‘to invite’ or ‘call together’, very much representing the brand’s thoughtful and charming nature. Jessica Redinger, General Manager at the new Voco The Bank, spoke to TravelNews ahead of the launch.
“Our location is our biggest selling point. We are within walking distance of the Gautrain station, and close to several multinational, regional and national headquarters. We are also in the heart of Johannesburg’s art district, are surrounded by some of the best restaurants in the city and within 100 metres of the African craft market, Rosebank Mall and The Zone shopping centres as well as the popular Rosebank rooftop market held every Sunday,” she said.
Rosebank regulars may very well recognise the building where the new hotel is being housed. Home to FNB bank since the 1970s, The Bank, as it’s called, has since been renovated, with six more floors added to create the cool architectural design that it has now.
The multi-use The Bank also houses Proud Mary restaurant as well as a wine bar and coffee shop on the ground floor, offering breakfast, lunch and dinner to all hotel guests who don’t want to go too far for a bite to eat.
Redinger also told TravelNews that her team spared no detail at all in creating a custom experience for every guest.
“We try to glean as much information about our guests before they come so we can tailor-make the experience for them,”
