Does this Simon’s Town Otter just want to play?
Is this otter a menace to society or does he just want to play? A recent TikTok video showing a group of young men being approached by an otter while they’re standing on top of floating piece of jetty in Simon’s Town has got us asking these questions.
Posted by popular account Overtime, the video showcases the guys just hanging around on the floating jetty, totally at ease, right until an otter appears out of the water and climbs on board.
The young men then start backing away but the otter just follows, causing them to dive into the water in order to get away. Each time the guys jump into the water, the otter follows, seemingly having fun teasing the boys.

The video has sinced garnered over nine million views, almost one million likes and over 7 000 comments. The original footage is said to be from the False Bay Yacht Club, which is situated in Simon’s Town, Cape Town.
Some TikTok users found the video hilarious while others thought the otter was adorable and just wanted to play.
Coach Tinita claimed that the creature just wanted to play Tag: “The otter, “Let somebody else be IT now guys” 😂😂😂”
Lillian said “if you guys don’t go back & say sorry rn 😡😡 he just wanted to playyy”
“Laughed at this but search bar says are otters dangerous and these guys were actually smart to escape lol” TikTok user Rina pointed out.
And Rina is right, because as reported by IOL, while otters MAY seem cute and friendly, they’re carnivores and have an inclination to ‘’hurt and kill any prey that comes their way,’’. They are also able to infect humans and pets with rabies through bites and scratches.
