Comair update: Discovery Bank to the rescue
In a statement released last Friday (10 June), Discovery Bank said that it would be aiding Discovery Bank Vitality members who had booked a discounted flight on the now liquidated Comair departing from 1 June onwards.
While Discovery Bank said it was working on alternative solutions for Vitality members who were NOT Discovery Bank clients, they stated that affected Vitality members who had booked a discounted flight could open a Discovery Bank account before 30 June, in order to receive an immediate refund as well as make bookings on the Vitality Travel platform.
Dinesh Govender, CEO at Discovery Vitality said that they were saddened by the news of the Comair liquidation.
“We apologise to all those affected and hope these efforts will help alleviate their situation. Comair has been one of Vitality’s longest standing partners, and we are saddened by the news. It is devastating for Comair’s passengers, staff and partners, as well as for the travel sector.” he said.
According to Travel News, the refunds from the bank are being deposited into the client’s Discovery Bank transaction account. If a client does not have a transaction account, the refund will be deposited into their Discovery Bank credit card account or their savings account.
As for clients that have already been rebooked on to another flight through arrangements made by Comair or British Airways, the bank will reverse the Discovery Bank travel refund.
Clients or would-be clients can call Discovery Bank at 0800 07 96 97 for more information.
