A Cape Town restaurant has made it onto the World’s 50 Best Restaurants list, taking a well-deserved spot at number 37.
The World’s 50 Best Restaurants
In a prestigious ceremony that took place in London, the 50 best restaurants in the world were announced, and one of South Africa’s very own took a spot at number 37. FYN Restaurant, a Cape Town-based culinary delight, was the eatery that got the spotlight at number 37, chosen for its Southern Hemisphere-meets-Japanese style cuisine, elegant decor and one-of-a-kind dining experience.
FYN, pronounced ‘fine’, has been gradually growing prominence on the global gastronomic scene, says the list, and in 2022, it broke into The World’s 50 Best Restaurants list for the first time, picking up The Best Restaurant in Africa award in the process.
The restaurant is headed up by renowned South African chef and restaurateur, Peter Tempelhoff, supported by French general manager, Jennifer Hugé and fantastic head chef, Ashley Moss.
“The experienced trio have masterminded the restaurant’s ascent and continually-evolving philosophy across the four years since its launch.” says the World’s 50 Best Restaurants list’s write up.
FYN Restaurant can be found on Parliament Street, Cape Town, and the list advises that you book a table early in the evening, before sunset, to appreciate the triple-height windows that offer unbelievable views over Lion’s Head and Table Mountain.
Other Western Cape eateries also made part of the list
FYN was not the only South African eatery to take a spot on the prestigious list, reports Business Tech. Two other restaurants, both hailing from the Western Cape, took number 56 and number 90 on the World’s 50 Best Restaurants 51-100 list.
La Colombe in Cape Town, featured at number 56, while Wolfgat in Paternoster took number 90.
