Airlink has just announced that it will soon launch direct flights between Cape Town and Maputo, Mozambique.
Cape Town to Maputo: Airlink expands its network
Local Airline, Airlink, really is doing the most – now launching a direct route between Cape Town and Maputo in Mozambique. This new route is a first for the airline, and the linking of the two cities with direct flights seems to be a significant first too, according to Tourism Update.
Rodger Foster, Airlink CEO and MD, explained that the airline is responding to the call of the travelling market for a direct service between the two coastal cities, which also happen to be growing, important centres of economic activity, including trade and tourism.
Foster said that by flying direct, instead of via Johannesburg, the airline would more than halve the door-to-door travelling time, putting more hours back in our customers’ hands to do business and to enjoy the wide host of activities, attractions, food and culture that the city of Maputo offers.
“This new route also supports Airlink’s strategy to grow and develop its network and schedule of flights connecting Cape Town with other key business and tourism destinations throughout Southern Africa,” Foster added.
Mozambique is regarded as a market of note for Airlink, as they currently provide flights from Johannesburg to several areas in the country, including Maputo, Beira, Nampula, Pemba, Tete and Vilanculos, which the airline also serves directly from Mbombela.
When do flights commence?
The airline plans to use its 37-seat Embraer 135 regional jets for the new service, which will at first operate thrice weekly. The schedules are as follows:
- Flight 4Z 489 will depart Cape Town at 17:10 and arrive in Maputo at 19:40 on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.
- Flight 4Z 490 will depart Maputo at 06:10 and then arrive in Cape Town at 09:00 on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
The new route is scheduled to begin on 31 August 2022.
