Visit the Welkom museum
Why you should visit: Stop by the Welkom museum for a golden history lesson at one of South Africa’s major gold mining locations. Learn more about the history and the many different mines in the area, as well as, about the town itself and its many different flora and fauna that grow in the region.

Phakisa Raceway
Why you should visit: A bit of an oddity in the quaint town of Welkom, the Phakisa Raceway, is a motor and bike racing track that hosts many national and international races. Built in the 1990’s, the Phakisa (“Get moving” in Sotho) Raceway is Africa’s only oval motor racing circuit. How to get there: Phakisa is just off the R70 north of Welkom.
Welkom’s various parks
Why you should visit: For the nature-loving, outdoorsman, Welkom offers numerous parks and gardens for picnicking and soaking up the South African sun. Check out Welkom Central Park and Up Town Park. There’s a reason why Welkom is also called “City Within A Garden”.
How to get there: Find Up Town Park on Mary Street, and Welkom Central Park on Mooi Street.
Oppenheimer Park Golf Club
Why you should visit: Established in 1949, the Oppenheimer Park Golf Club offers an 18 hole course situated next to a scenic dam oasis, which thousands of flamingos call home. The club also has a bar and restaurant for a bite to eat after your golf session.
