Whether you’d like to break away from the house for the day, or simply explore Gqeberha, there is an array of activities for you to get up to this festive season. Let’s tuck in, shall we?
Addo Elephant full day safari
What a way to spend an entire day – being amongst some of the majestic animals of South Africa. Addo Elephant National Park allows you to have an experience of a lifetime by enjoying a full day safari around the park, led by one or more of their knowledgeable safari guides.
The full-day experience includes an early morning safari drive for a few hours and a tea/lunch break. The safari then continues into the late afternoon, and to end off the fun-filled day, you can enjoy a delicious braai! Talk about a treat!
If you’re looking to go to one place for the day, Addo Elephant National Park will give you much more than what you bargained for.
Bask in the sun at the beach
Gqeberha boasts a number of beautiful beaches. This is especially perfect if you’d like to treat yourself, family, or friends on a budget. The beaches around Gqeberha are known to be some of the most beautiful and clear.
The best beaches to go for a swim in are Wells Estate Beach, Humewood Beach and King’s Beach. These beaches have been internationally recognised as Blue Flag beaches, meaning that they are some of the safest beaches around the world.
Cape Recife Nature Reserve
If you are an avid hiker looking for another trail to explore in Gqeberha, the Cape Recife Nature Reserve has what you need. The nature reserve is located a few kilometres outside of Gqeberha and is the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle. This is definitely for you if you are looking for a quiet day trip.
The reserve also offers a 9km-long hiking trail that leads to a quiet, unpolluted and untarnished seaside. Sounds like a done deal to us!
South End Museum
Time travel on your day trip and explore the South End Museum in Gqeberha.
The museum takes you through history and has a special focus on apartheid. You can find a plethora of artefacts that teleport you into the past. These items include newspaper clippings from the apartheid era, photos and the most convincing recreations of life for citizens during that time.
Don’t worry, although there is a lot of focus on the tragedy that was apartheid, there is also an uplifting focus on the end of the era to lift your spirits. The South End Museum takes you on a journey but leaves you feeling lighter at the end and a lot more knowledgeable of South Africa’s history.
Clearly, there are more than enough things to get up to if you are looking to spend the day out of the house! There is something to tickle anyone’s fancy in Gqeberha.
