Comair is back in business. The South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) has lifted it’s ‘indefinite’ ban on the airline.
Effective late on Wednesday evening, 16 March, the SACAA reinstated Comair’s Air Operators’ Certificate (AOC), allowing flights to resume once more.
In a statement released yesterday, the Authority claimed that they had concluded the assessment and evaluation on whether Comair complied with applicable Civil
Aviation Regulations (CARs).
“This brings to an end a five-day suspension of the air operator certificate which was imposed by the regulator from March 12. The director of civil aviation heralds the commitment shown by the regulator’s inspectorate team from the first day of the audit leading up to the sleepless nights spent evaluating evidence all in the interest of ensuring aviation safety.” it said.
Five days of suspension for Comair
The SACAA’s decision to suspend Comair, which was labelled ‘indefinite’ on Sunday, 13 March, came after a range of safety concerns were just not addressed by Comair. In it’s new statement, the Authority commended Comair’s cooperation while the situation was being addressed.
“The cooperation and commitment of the Operator during this period signalled the seriousness in which the Operator took this matter and the openness displayed in the days leading up to this day. It is this collaboration that ensures that civil aviation safety remains a top priority in South Africa.” said the statement.

Flight resumption schedules
Travellers wanting to fly again with with either Kulula or British Airways are advised to check the schedules on the airlines’ websites before coming to the airport:

According to Travel News, passengers who had a confirmed booking for today (17 March) onwards can proceed to the airport as normal, while those customers whose flights had been rescheduled or changed, will receive an SMS with new details.
