Mauritius COVID-19 regulations have been relaxed just in time for South Africans’ next vacation. The island previously had far stricter COVID-19 testing requirements, but is excited to receive fully vaccinated visitors.
As of 12 March, fully vaccinated foreigners will be able to fly onto the island without producing a negative PCR test. They will still require undergoing testing immediately on arrival and once more on the fifth day of their stay. Foreigners who are unvaccinated must spend seven days in quarantine in “accommodation of [their] choice”. Under 18s travelling with a parent or guardian do not need to show proof of vaccination to enter Mauritius, but must still undergo the test on arrival.

The director of Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority, Arvind Bundhun, is beside himself with excitement, telling press:
“We are delighted that the ministry of health and wellness has reviewed the sanitary protocol for visitors to Mauritius. Automatically, this renders the experience of travelling to Mauritius far easier and more streamlined. We expect a further boost to tourism numbers as demand for travel to Mauritius is currently ramping up.”

Given that Mauritius is already a beloved destination and had been seeing steady growth in tourism over the past twenty years – with a peak of 1.4M tourists visiting the little island in 2019 – the economy will definitely appreciate this returning spike of holidaymakers. Mauritius COVID-19 regulations had certainly prevented leisure travel to the island paradise.
