The city of Cape Town is known for its fabulous, white-sanded beaches, and now with the summer season in full swing – what better way to beat the heat than with a day at the beach! Here are five of of the city’s Blue Flag beaches to visit this summer.
Camps Bay
The beach at Camps Bay offers a beautiful stretch of white sand that’s flat and sprawling – perfect for lying on and soaking up the South African sunshine. Azure water laps the shore – the cooling Atlantic ocean beckoning you for a dip. The beach is a popular one, filled with young adults, families and students.
Bikini Beach (Gordons Bay)
Bikini Beach in Gordons Bay is a gem! A small stretch of sand curves around some of the bluest water you will ever see, with calm, sheltered conditions that are perfect for the kiddies.
Muizenberg
The Muizenberg area is known mostly for its beautiful beach. The young see it as a surfing/ kite-surfing hotspot, young parents see it as somewhere safe to take their kids out for a day at the beach and the middle-aged enjoy the food and spectacular views across False Bay. It’s the perfect summery weekend spot!
Fish Hoek
Neighbouring Muizenberg, Fish Hoek is considered one of Cape Town’s hidden gems when it comes to beaches. The beach is 1.5km of pristine white sands and turquoise waters, and is family-friendly and ideal for swimming, snorkelling and sunbathing. There are also many shallow rock pools to explore along parts of the shore.
Clifton Beach
Clifton’s beaches are a definite favourite of locals and tourists alike and is arguably some of the best beaches in the country. Made up of four coves separated by giant boulders, the powdery, white sand and turquoise waters beg you to stay just a little longer!
