TRAVELLING SOON? THIS HANDY MAPPING TOOL CAN HELP
The mapping tool developed by travel website Skyscanner shows that as of 6 January, South Africa has 94 “major restrictions” in place from other countries.
According to Business Tech, this is up from around 60 significant restrictions in mid-2021.
These 94 countries have suspended travel, may be closed to entry, or entry may only be possible if you are a citizen/meet strict entrance requirements.
Skyscanner’s data also shows that there are currently 23 moderate restrictions for South Africa, where travel is possible, but only if travellers meet specific entry requirements, including taking COVID-19 tests and quarantine.
The tool also shows that there are four areas that Skyscanner do not have access to.
STAY UP TO DATE WITH TRAVEL RESTRICTIONS
Nevertheless, the tool is great for travellers who need to find updated travel requirements.
For example, at the moment, there is still major restrictions in place when travelling to Australia. Travel to Australia primarily applies to Australian citizens.

Meanwhile, travellers from South Africa to the Netherlands are required to self-quarantine for 10 days on arrival and a quarantine declaration form must be completed before departure. This period may be shortened if a test is taken by the municipal health service (GGD) on the fifth day and a negative test result is confirmed.
Other requirements include proof of a negative PCR test, taken within the previous 24 hours, presented on arrival from SA to the Netherlands. Alternatively, travellers may provide proof of a negative PCR test taken within the previous 48 hours, along with a negative antigen test taken within the previous 24 hours.
