Splashy Fen FUN festivities return
Dubbed “South Africa’s Friendliest Festival” for its bias-free and judgement-free ethos, the popular Splashy Fen Music Festival is making a return to Drakensberg this April 2023.
The festival made its return to the berg last April, after a two-year COVID-19 hiatus, and now its back again – bigger and better than ever!
What is it?
Splashy Fen is South Africa’s longest running and oldest music festival. The festival not only celebrates music but also life, art, people, love laughter, fun and enjoyment.
The festival began way back 1990 after Peter Ferraz and Bart Fokkens decided that the farm Splashy Fen was a perfect location for a music gathering. The first festival attracted around 400 musicians and festival goers, and by 1995, it had become the biggest music festival in the country, welcoming over 150 000 visitors each year.
Who’s performing
According to Texx and the City, Stu Berry, Splashy Fen Festival Director, said that they were extremely excited and proud to have worked on building such a diverse line-up for 2023.
“At this stage, we have confirmed the first 7 acts who will perform on the Main Stage over the Easter long weekend, and we believe it is one of our strongest main stage line-ups to date, with three international performers complimenting top South Africa’s musical acts.” Berry said.
Phase One artists will comprise of three internationals acts – Coleman Hell and Neon Dreams, both from Canada, as well as The Pierce Brothers from Australia. Local artists will join the main stage, including Majozi, Goodluck, Spoegwolf and Zebra.
The 2023 Splashy Fen festival will take place over the traditional Easter weekend from the 6 to 10 April.
