FISH HOEK BEACH REOPENED

The City’s Environmental Health Service received the results of water samples taken from the beach and the water quality is within in the minimum requirement for recreational activity determined by the National Water Quality Guidelines.

“As such, Fish Hoek Beach has been reopened and the signage removed. The City thanks the public for its cooperation during this time.”

The South African previously reported that a sewer overflow in the area led to the closure of the beach. The cause of the overflow has not been revealed by the City.

The public was advised to avoid contact with the water as there was a risk of developing potential gastrointestinal issues.

As previously reported, a part of Muizenberg beach was temporarily closed due to an issue at a nearby sewer pump station. The beach was closed on 12 December and reopened on Friday, 16 December.
