The ‘most affordable cities’ to visit

Where are the most affordable places to visit in the world? Bounce has answered that question in their recent City break cost index for 2023.

According to the study, one South African city even ranked in the Top 10 for most ‘affordable city break destination’ in the world. This honour was given to the glorious Mother City, who took the number seven spot on the list.

The study analysed 75 of this year’s most popular city break destinations, taking into consideration the price of a beer, hotel costs, one-way transport rates and other factors, to find the best of the best.

Cape Town scored a 7.52 out of 10 for affordability, with avaerage costs broken down as follows:

  • Price of a hotel per night: $256 (around R5 000)
  • Price of a meal at a restaurant: $9.21 (around R170)
  • Price of a beer: $2.11 (around R40)
  • Price of a bottle of wine: $4.21 (around R80)
  • Price of a taxi: $0.65 (around R12)
  • Price of a one-way local transport ticket: $1.05 (around R20)
