Local airline, Airlink, has just announced that it will be resuming flights between Richards Bay and Johannesburg soon.
Airlink will once again offer daily flights to and from Richards Bay after a nearly two-year hiatus. In a statement, the airline said that the reinstatement of daily flights came after Richards Bay Airport managed to secure the necessary resources to accommodate scheduled airline services after a 20-month shutdown due to COVID-19 regulations.

According to IOL, the resumption of flights on the route means that the airline will be able to re-connect Richards Bay with the world, offering a choice of convenient connections for passengers, to their expansive network of domestic and regional destinations, as well as those around the world through their global airline partners.

Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director at Airlink, Rodger Foster, stated that Richards Bay is vital to the economies of KwaZulu-Natal and the entire country. It’s viability and development depend on a fully-functioning and efficient transportation system, with air connectivity playing a key role in driving business and investment in the coal-terminus town and the industries it hosts.
“We are ready to welcome Richards Bay customers back on board our flights and help reignite growth and economic activity in the area,” Foster said.
Airlink’s Richards Bay flights will begin on 19 September 2022 and will be operated with 29-seat Jetstream 41 turboprop airliners. Check out the schedule below:
