NEWS JUST IN – LIGHT SNOWFALL WILL MAKE LANDFALL ON TODAY

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) warned that light snowfall is expected in the mountains in the following areas: 

  • Lesotho
  • Eastern Cape

“Light snowfalls on the mountains could result in isolated loss of vulnerable livestock. Slippery conditions due to icy roads on mountain passes could result in some isolated disruption.” 

The SAWS furthermore advised the public to keep their livestock in shelters and avoid travelling on icy roads.

THE PUBLIC IS ADVISED TO AVOID TRAVElLING ON ICY ROADS

Snowfall is expected to make landfall early on Tuesday morning and continue until Tuesday evening.

The SAWS also issued a damaging waves warning for several parts of South Africa for Thursday. The following areas might be affected:

  • Wild Coast Sun
  • Port St Johns
  • M_Ngquza Hill
  • Mkambati
  • The Haven
  • Port Alfred
  • M_Nelson Mandela Bay
  • Cape Recife
  • M_Bitou
  • Plettenberg Bay
  • George
  • Cape Agulhas 2
  • Mossel Bay
  • Still Bay
  • Hermanus
  • Saldanha Bay
  • Table Bay

ICYMI- Light snowfall

“The damaging waves, are expected to result in difficulty in navigation, as well as small vessels being at risk of taking on water and capsizing in a locality. Small vessels are advised to seek shelter in harbours, bays or inlets.”

THIS COMES AFTER SNOWFALL WAS CONFIRMED IN PARTS OF SA LAST MONTH

This comes after several parts of South Africa had snow last month. The following areas had confirmed snow:

  • Lesotho
  • Underberg
  • Drakensberg Mountains
  • Worcester mountains

FARMERS URGED TO SHELTER ANIMALS

It furthermore warned that the accumulation of snow might result in isolated loss of vulnerable livestock and snowmelt resulting in slippery driving conditions.

The SAWS urged small stock farmers are encouraged to shelter animals. Residents should dress warmly and avoid high mountain passes.
