Hot weather ahead: 40°C temperatures expected in the Western Cape

The weather service issued an extreme heat advisory for hot weather, as temperatures are expected to reach 40 degrees and above in parts of SA.

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) issued an Extreme Heat Advisory for the Western Cape and Northern Cape on Sunday, 27 November.

EXTREMELY HOT WEATHER FOR THE CAPE

The advisory is valid from 8:00 until 20:00 on Monday, 28 November. The weather service said the extreme heat would be the result of windy conditions in the Western Cape.

The South African previously reported that the province would experience gusts of up to 70km/h from Friday to Sunday.

“Very hot conditions will result from predominantly off-shore wind flow over the western parts of the Western Cape. Temperatures reaching 40 degrees and above are likely to occur,” said the weather service.

People in the affected areas are advised to avoid prolonged exposure to the sun and keep hydrated by drinking plenty of water.

“Make sure your animals have access to enough water. Drink plenty of water, put on sunscreen and avoid strenuous outside work,” added the weather service.
