Coffee Bay on a budget: Top places to stay

Coffee Bay is often thought of as the “tourist hub” of the Wild Coast. With the outstanding attraction of Hole in the Wall just 40-minutes away, Coffee Bay is certainly the spot where tourists tend to base themselves when visiting the Wild Coast.

If you’re visiting on a budget, you’re in luck when it comes to accommodation, as budget stays just shine in this area. Here are a couple to check out!

Coffee Shack Backpackers, Coffee Bay

Why you should stay here: First opened in 2000, Coffee Shack Backpackers features right-on-the-beach clean, safe, budget accommodation. Choose from traditional thatched private rooms with ensuites or dormitories, or take advantage of the fabulous camping facilities.

There’s something for all budgets too. The traditional thatched double room rondavels come with a double bed, bunk and private bathroom. It’s perfect for a couple or for up to four people sharing.

How much does it cost: Double room rondavels cost R580 for two people and R190 per extra person.

Hole In The Wall Resort

Why you should stay here: Hole in the Wall Hotel and Resort is the perfect place if you’re looking for a little more luxury while staying on budget during your Wild Coast stay.

The resort offers an onsite restaurant, a swimming pool with poolside bar, board games, laundry, right-on-the-beach location and even a wellness spa. Accommodation options include chalets, rondavels and backpackers.

Chalet and rondavel sizes range from studios and one bedrooms, right up to 4 bedrooms and seven-sleeper houses. Backpacker options include a twin ensuite room, double ensuite room and a four-bedroom backpacker chalet, perfect for a group.

How much does it cost: A one bedroom chalet costs R675 per unit, a one bedroom rondavel is priced at R540 per unit and a double ensuite backpacker room costs R270 per unit.
