Severe Weather Alerts

IMPACT-BASED WARNINGS:

A. Yellow Level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms with possible strong damaging wind, heavy downpours, leading to localised flooding of low-lying bridges, settlement and roads, and damage to infrastructure expected over the eastern Highveld and escarpment of Mpumalanga Province, in places over the interior in Limpopo, in parts of Gauteng and the western parts of KwaZulu-Natal.

B. Yellow Level 2 warning for disruptive rain leading to localized flooding of susceptible roads, low-lying bridges. informal and informal settlements over the eastern part of the Northern Cape, as well as the western North-West province.

FIRE DANGER WARNINGS:

Extremely uncomfortable conditions are expected over the Oudtshoorn municipality of the Western Cape.

Temperature and UVB forecast

Gauteng:

Temperature: Partly cloudy and warm becoming cloudy with scattered showers and thundershowers from the afternoon.

The expected UVB Sunburn Index: Extreme

Mpumalanga:

Temperature: Cloudy and cool to warm but hot in the Lowveld, with scattered showers and thundershowers.

Limpopo:

Temperature: Cloudy and cool to warm but hot in places, with scattered showers and thundershowers.

North-West Province:

Temperature: Partly cloudy and warm with scattered showers and thundershowers.

Free State:

Temperature: Partly cloudy and warm with scattered showers and thundershowers.

Northern Cape:

Temperature: Cloudy with morning fog along the coast, otherwise fine and cool to warm but hot in the extreme north-west becoming partly cloudy and warm to hot with scattered showers and thundershowers but isolated over the western interior.

Wind: The wind along the coast will be light and variable until late morning, becoming moderate to fresh south-westerly.

Western Cape:

Temperature: Morning fog patches along the west coast, otherwise partly cloudy and warm, but cloudy and cool in places along the south coast, with light rain and isolated showers over the eastern parts. It will be hot in places over the interior with isolated showers and thundershowers over the extreme northern parts from the evening.

Wind: The wind along the coast will be light and variable north of Cape Columbine in the morning, where it will become moderate west to south-westerly, otherwise moderate to fresh south-easterly, but strong to near gale along the south-west coast.

The expected UVB Sunburn Index: Extreme

Eastern Cape:

The Western half – Cloudy and warm along the coast, otherwise partly cloudy and hot with isolated thunderstorms in the north from the afternoon.

The Western half -Wind: The wind along the coast will be light to moderate westerly, but south-westerly in the afternoon.

The Eastern half -Cloudy with fog and light rain in places south of the escarpment in the morning, otherwise partly cloudy and warm with isolated showers and thundershowers over the interior, but scattered in the north.

The Eastern halfWind: The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh south-westerly, becoming southerly from the afternoon.

Kwazulu-Natal:

Temperature: Partly cloudy and warm, becoming cloudy in the afternoon with scattered showers and thundershowers, but isolated in the east.

Wind: The wind along the coast will be moderate easterly to north-easterly.
