The South African Weather Service (SAWS) issued an Extreme Discomfort Advisory for the Western Cape on Thursday, 8 December, due to the very hot temperatures in the province.

The Extreme Discomfort Advisory is valid from 10:00 on Thursday until 21:00 on Friday, 9 December.
“Very hot temperatures will result in very uncomfortable conditions over the interior of the Western Cape today and tomorrow…” said the weather service.
Similar conditions are expected in the interior of the Namakwa District in the Northern Cape on Friday.
The weather service said temperatures reaching close to 40 degrees Celsius are expected to occur in places.
As previously reported, SAWS typically advises residents to stay out of direct sunlight as far as possible during such periods of intense heat.
