  • A valid test or recovery certificate – EU Digital COVID Certificate, or
  • A valid vaccination certificate (with a complete vaccination schedule with or without a booster jab) or recovery certificate issued by a third country, under reciprocal conditions (South Africa is not on this list of reciprocal agreements), or
  • A negative PCR test result (or similar NAAT test) from a test taken in the 72 hours prior to boarding, or
  • A negative Laboratory Rapid Antigen Test 24 hours before boarding (according to the European Commission list).
  • Passengers travelling on flights to the Azores require a vaccination certificate (when coming from mainland Portugal or Madeira, a WHO-accepted vaccination certificate is accepted), or a Recovery EU Digital COVID Certificate, or a negative RT-PCR Test taken 72 hours before boarding, or a negative laboratory Rapid Antigen Test taken 48 hours before boarding, or a recovery certificate (valid for 180 days).
  • Children 12 and under will be able to travel without a certificate or test.

There is also no longer a need for passengers to have a Passenger Locator Form on flights to Portugal, according to Travel News. In terms of mask-wearing, it is mandatory only on public transport, taxis and similar transport, and within health facilities, care and nursing homes.
