South Africa’s population took a huge jump from 2011 to 2022 – here’s how many people now live in our beautiful country…
South Africa’s population has increased from 51.7 million in 2011 to more than 62 million in 2022, the latest census revealed.
According to SA People, these figures come from Statistician-General, Risenga Maluleke, who handed over South Africa’s Census 2022 national results to President Cyril Ramaphosa at the Union Buildings in Pretoria on Tuesday.

According to the stats from Maluleke, females made 51.5% of the total population, while 48.5% consisted of males. Gauteng had the highest population, sitting at 15 million people, while KwaZulu-Natal came in second with 12.4 million people.
The Northern Cape had the smallest population, with just 1.3 million people.

The dominant population group were Black Africans, sitting at 81.4%, followed by the coloured population at 8.2%. The white population percentage declined to 7.3% in 2022 from 8.9% in 2011, while that for Indians/Asians increased slightly from 2.5% in 2011 to 2.7% in 2022.
