SAA spreads its wings across Africa

It seems there are more flights on the cards for SAA, after they recently announced that they would be restarting flights to three African countries by Christmas this year. The airlines said that before the end of the year, flights to one airport each in Namibia and Zimbabwe, and to two cities in Malawi would be back on their roster.

Although it is not yet clear on how much tickets will be on these routes, nor how frequent, SAA promised details in the coming weeks.

As per Business Insider, the African cities that SAA will offer flights to are Blantyre and Lilongwe, both in Malawi, Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe and Windhoek in Namibia.

The airline also said that they would soon offer more frequent flights to Accra, Harare, Lusaka, Kinshasa, and Mauritius. They also promised more frequency to and from Cape Town and Durban.

Sights set on MORE international routes

SAA has also stated that they would love to resume long-haul flight services soon. According to travel news, Tebogo Tsimane, the interim Chief Commercial Officer at SAA, said that all future route development plans would be handled sensibly before the end of March 2023, the current financial year end.

By then, the airline hopes to have at least opened new domestic and regional routes and, depending on the aircraft situation, to have restarted one or two long-haul flights.

Tsimane said that the airline is currently eyeing routes to New York, São Paulo and at least one Australian city from the Cape Town hub. Johannesburg to Perth and Johannesburg to Washington via Accra are also some of the most desired international routes featuring on SAA’s restart plan.
