MSC Cruises: Greener than ever

In times when being green really matters, MSC Cruises has just launched its newest vessel, designed to be the most energy-efficient cruise ship ever built.

The vessel has also been designed with the future in mind, reports Tourism Update, allowing for prospective innovations in sustainability to be incorporated, including carbon-neutral synthetic and other alternative fuels, as soon as they are available at scale.

The ship is the marine magnate’s second vessel, the first being MSC World Europa, to be powered by LNG, the cleanest marine fuel currently commercially available.

Take a look at what it looks like:

Eco-friendly features

Some of the eco-friendly features on board include various environmental technology, such as advanced onboard wastewater treatment systems and waste management handling, which helps prevent alien ocean organisms from being transported from one part of the ocean to another, which could threaten local ecosystems.

They have also significantly reduced plastic waste on the ship through a programme to eliminate or replace single-use plastic items.

“MSC Euribia is named after the ancient goddess Eurybia who harnessed the winds, weather and constellations to master the seas, furthering the vision of the ship to master the deployment of state-of-the-art technologies to protect and preserve the precious marine ecosystem,” says MSC Cruises.
