A multimillion-rand upgrade for the Midmar Dam Resort

Midmar Dam Resorts wants to attract more tourists

Recently revealed at the KZN Tourism Month Celebrations in September, the Midmar Dam Resort is currently receiving a major and rather expensive upgrade. The resort, which is part of the Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife conservation, is situated on the shores of the Midmar Dam within the Midmar Nature Reserve, close to the town of Howick in KwaZulu-Natal.

According to Travel News and IOL, the new furbishment is aimed at transforming the resort into a multi-purpose destination, that will offer, in addition to its current activities, cycle hire, jet skis, kayaking, inflatables, boat cruises and kiddies’ play area.

Musa Mntambo, Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife Communications Manager, told Travel News that the project, which started out in October last year, also aims to modernise the Midmar Dam resort to attract more tourists.

“The refurbishment is of the existing chalets. The exterior and interior finishes will be modernised and new furniture will be placed, bringing comfort to guests. We want it to be more attractive to both local and international tourists,” Mntambo said. 

The project at the Midmar Dam resort is set to be completed in November 2023.

A popular spot

The Midmar Dam Resort is indeed a popular spot, and is situated within easy reach of most other KwaZulu-Natal Midlands attractions, such as the well-known and popular Midlands Meander. The game park at the resort is stocked with a variety of game species such as red hartebeest, black wildebeest, zebra, blesbok, reedbuck and oribi.

The resort currently offers a range of accommodation such as self-catering chalets and cabins, and campsites.
