LIFT Airlines, which took to the skies in December 2020 with just one scheduled route in its network, is expanding its operations. The airline has announced that it will also offer flights to Durban from October.

The brainchild of Uber South Africa’s Jonathan Ayache and Gidon Novick from Comair’s low-cost carrier Kulula, was launched less than two years ago.

LIFT AIRLINES: LOW-COST FLIGHTS

The airline, which operates a low-cost model, launched during the COVID-19 pandemic with only one route.

Up until now, LIFT has operated flights on the Johannesburg-to-Cape Town route with its fourth-generation Airbus A320 Aircraft.

THINKING OUT OF THE BOX

LIFT Airlines has become known for doing things differently. Since its launch as reported by IOL, the airline has offered passengers some unique experiences and options.

These range from inflight silent discos and live inflight performances by local musicians, to complimentary premium coffee for all passengers and the option of taking pets onboard their flights.

ADDING DURBAN TO NETWORK

The airline is now expanding its horizons. With the shortage of capacity in the country, LIFT will be stepping in to fill the gap on the Johannesburg-to-Durban route.

The collapse of Comair, which operated a British Airways franchise in Southern Africa, as well as Kulula, removed around 40% of the seats offered in the domestic market since June this year.

LIFT will start up flights between Johannesburg and Durban on 26 October.
