Germany axes 3G rule

In a recent press release, the German government said that travellers visiting Germany still won’t need to provide proof that they have been vaccinated, recovered, or tested negative for COVID-19, at least until September.

On 1 June 2022, Germany had suspended the ‘3G’ rule in regards to their entry regulations. According to SchengenVisaInfo, this 3G rule required all travellers to present a valid vaccination, recovery, or test certificate in order to enter Germany. The 3G rule was then lifted for the European summer season from June to August.

Now, the country has amended their decision to bring back the 3G rule after 31 August, allowing all travellers to still be able to visit Germany under the relaxed restrictions until the end of September.

“Entry remains uncomplicated: anyone entering Germany does not have to prove that they have been vaccinated, have recovered or been tested,” the statement of the German government read.

While the country plans to keep these relaxed entry rules for another month, the authorities have pointed out that they will introduce new nationwide measures come October. According to the government, from October, those who wish to access German hospitals and facilities will be subject to testing once again.

The country will also require everyone to wear a face mask when entering planes and other long-distance public transport.

“In certain areas, specific protective measures should apply nationwide – the mask requirement in air and long-distance public transport or a nationwide mask and test certificate requirement for hospitals and care facilities,” the government added.
