Delta Doubles: Airline increases JHB flight route

Delta Air Lines recently announced that it will now double it’s Johannesburg flights – going from three to six flights per week.

Delta doubles up: ‘significant travel demand between SA and US’

Effective from next Wednesday, 25 May 2022, Delta Air Lines will up it’s Johannesburg flight schedule, now offering six flights a week. According to Tourism Update, the additional flights have been on sale for some time.

“We are seeing significant demand for travel between South Africa and the US from both points of sale, US leisure travel being particularly dominant. All flights will be operated using Airbus A350-900 aircraft with 306 seats. Delta is seeking authority from the Department of Transportation to operate nonstop Atlanta-Cape Town flights. We’re also looking forward to the start of our triangular ATL-JNB-CPT-ATL route and will have more details to share later this year” a spokesperson for Delta said.

The six flights will depart OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg every day besides Tuesdays. Taking off at 21:55 and landing in Atlanta at 8:15 the next day.

The return flights will depart the Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport in Atlanta every day except Mondays, taking off at 19:55 and arriving in Johannesburg at 16:55 the following day.

Flights to Cape Town

In other news, Delta Air Lines also received the green light to fly to Cape Town recently. This go-ahead reportedly followed delays and bilateral engagements that went on for years. The Mother City’s international airport will now operate a triangular flight route between Cape Town, Johannesburg and Atlanta.
