It’s all in good fun! April Fools Day is here and South Africans are getting tricked left, right and centre. Two tricksters, LIFT Airline and OneDayOnly showed off shenanigans that fooled customers.
OneDayOnly caught customers attention with a 90% discounted offer on a Russian super yacht. Titled “Oligarch’s megayacht”, the deal was priced at R9,999 999 – a real “bargain” as it was initially “valued at R100 million”.
Poking fun at Oligarchs, the advertisement read:
“It’s 140 meters long and jam packed with the kind of luxuries only Autocrats can dream of. If you’re not welcome in Europe, no problem. With a range of 7000 miles you can sail the world with 40 of your closest oligarch mates in this floating resort. You could even sail it from The Crimea to South Africa where you’d be sure to get a warm welcome from your old comrades.
“You could even host them for a ‘not an invasion or a war at all’ party (BOYB). The mini submarine (and especially the 4 tenders) will be sure to get your guests excited. Think how amazed they’ll be when you turn the dance floor into a (fire)pool with one touch of a gold-plated button.
“Available for collection in Marina di Carrara in northern Tuscany (if you can find a morally-ambivalent crew)”.
The ad went on to state that it was just a gag and that instead, customers could purchase donation amounts that would go towards Gift of the Givers, who are helping deliver humanitarian aid to the people of Ukraine.
LIFT Airline, meanwhile, tricked customers on their Facebook and Instagram pages, introducing a “new fight service” for dogs.
Their post read:
“Sneak peek at something new! From 10 April, we’ll be introducing another innovative offering exclusive to LIFT. You can now book your fur-baby on one of our dog-ONLY flights. That’s right, no humans allowed!
Your doggie will get a chance to meet other travelling pets, enjoy a vegan catered meal and Premium pet grooming facilities. True to the offering, our cabin crew for these flights will also be of the 4 legged variety. We are currently nearly done training our Canine Captains. Visit lift.co.za for more info.”
It all sounded very appealing and exciting, until you reached the very end of the post and saw it was just a trick!
Well played, well played.
