Air Tanzania to fly South Africa once more this September

Air Tanzania, Tanzania’s flag carrier, will once again fly South African skies this September, after a four-year absence. Here’s more details…

Air Tanzania heads back to South Africa – but when?

Air Tanzania is set to resume scheduled flights to South Africa later this September, though the actual date still to be announced.

According to Travel News, the airline will conduct these flights between its hub in Dar es Salaam and Johannesburg’s OR Tambo International Airport.

Four years ago, the airline, along with many globally, had to to halt its operations to a number destinations, including South Africa, in response to travel restrictions and decreased demand.

The revival of the route will no doubt foster ties of tourism and trade between the two nations. The route is scheduled to return in September this month and travellers are advised to check the Air Tanzania website for dates, details and bookings.

Lufthansa’s new route

In other news, OR Tambo International Airport will soon also see direct flights from Munich, Germany, after Lufthansa recently announced the addition a new route.

The direct service will take off from 4 June 2024, and will operate using an Airbus A350-900, able to accommodate 293 passengers in business class, premium economy and economy class.

The flights will occur on Tuesday, Friday and Sunday mornings, departing Johannesburg at 9:00 in the morning.

Matthias Lefevre, General Manager of Sales Southern Africa, Lufthansa Group Airlines, said that the flights will be enjoyed by both corporate and leisure travellers.

“With this new non-stop flight, we will increase the travel choices from Johannesburg substantially in addition to the existing one to Frankfurt.
