Rain, rain go away: Five rainy day activities to do in Durban

As beautiful, warm and tropical as Durban is, it does tend to rain somewhat, especially during the spring/summer seasons from November to January. If you happen to find your vacay a bit under the weather, here are five activities that’ll keep you dry and guarantee fun for the whole family.

Explore the aquarium

The uShaka Marine World features the largest aquarium in the southern hemisphere, with underground viewing galleries, which extend 500 meters through a series of incredibly crafted old ship wrecks. pYou can also check out the dolphin and seal shows – a particular treat for kids and adults alike.

Shop til you drop in Durban

Durban offers superb shopping facilities, including the Gateway Theatre of Shopping, one of the largest shopping malls in the southern hemisphere. With over 430 stores, 70 eateries and many exciting entertainment activities at Gateway, you’ll never get bored! Other gems include the Pavilion, La Lucia Mall, Galleria and uShaka Village Walk. Wear your most comfortable walking shoes!

The malls in Durban aren’t only for shopping! Galleria Mall in Amanzimtoti offers a range of exciting things to do, including; ten pin bowling, Lazer Maze, X-rider 4D Theatre, Carnival Kingdom, Go-Karting, bumper cars and even ice skating. Prepare for fun!

Get cultured in Durban

One of the best things to do on a rainy day, wherever you might be, is to visit a museum. The KZN city has a wide range of museums and art galleries to keep you engrossed for hours. Be sure to check out the Natural Sciences Museum, Pansi Museum, Durban Art Gallery and the African Art Centre.

Perfect for groups of friends or family members, they test your knowledge and teamwork skills and leave you with an amazing sense of accomplishment once you escape!
