Just below the Witwatersrand mountain range lies the quaint town of Magaliesburg. Named after the majestic Magaliesberg mountains, which also stands nearby (within 8kms), Magalies, as it’s affectionately called, is the weekend destination of choice for many Joburgers.
The village is most providentially positioned in the heart of stunning natural beauty, with valleys, mountains, woodlands, rivers and bushveld to entice you. Magalies also offers an array of accommodation options for visitors, from remote cottages, guesthouses, hotels and bed and breakfasts – all perfect to relax and take in the quiet of the small town.
If peace and quiet isn’t all that you’re after, Magalies appeals to the more adventurous at heart too. Take your pick from hiking and mountain bike trails, canopy tours and hot air balloon rides. History-buffs can delight in the fact that the town is also home to the oldest mine in Gauteng, The Blaauwbank Historic Gold mine, where gold was discovered more than 100 years ago.
Magaliesburg is about an hour’s drive from Johannesburg via the M47.
