FIRE DANGER WARNINGS:

1.Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected over the Western Bushveld and the Valley in Limpopo, Central Karoo District, Kannaland municipality in the Western Cape and Khai-Ma municipality, the John Taolo Gaetsewem Frances Baard and the eastern parts of Pixle Ka-Seme Districts in the Northern Cape.

ADVISORIES:

1.A heat wave with persistently high temperatures is expected in the Lowveld of Mpumalanga and Limpopo from Wednesday (12 October 2022) until Friday.

Temperature and UVB forecast

Gauteng:

Temperature: Partly cloudy and warm, but hot in the north with isolated evening showers and thundershowers.

The expected UVB Sunburn Index: Extreme.

Mpumalanga:

Temperature: Cloudy in the east with morning fog patches along the escarpment, otherwise partly cloudy and warm but hot in the Lowveld. Isolated afternoon showers and thundershowers are expected but scattered along the escarpment.

Limpopo:

Temperature: Cloudy in the east with morning fog patches along the escarpment where it will be partly cloudy, otherwise fine and warm to hot.

North-West Province:

Temperature: Fine at first, otherwise partly cloudy and warm to hot, with isolated showers and thundershowers over the extreme eastern parts.

Free State:

Temperature: Partly cloudy and warm to hot, with isolated showers and thundershowers except in the north-west.

Northern Cape:

Temperature: Partly cloudy and warm to hot but very hot in the north-east.

Wind: The wind along the coast will be fresh to strong southerly to south-easterly becoming north-westerly by the afternoon.

Western Cape:

Temperature: Morning fog over the West Coast, otherwise cloudy and cool to warm conditions along the coastline but partly cloudy and hot to very hot over the interior.

Wind: The wind along the coast will be fresh to strong westerly to south-westerly east of Gans Bay moderating from the west towards the evening, otherwise moderate to fresh northerly to northwesterly becoming light to moderate southerly from the afternoon.

The expected UVB Sunburn Index: Moderate.

Eastern Cape:

The Western half –Fine and very hot, but hot in places along the coast. Isolated thunderstorms can be expected in the extremely north from afternoon.

The Western half -Wind: The wind along the coast will be moderate north-easterly, becoming fresh south-westerly.

The Eastern half -Fine and hot to very hot, becoming partly cloudy with isolated thunderstorms from the afternoon.

The Eastern half -The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh north-easterly, becoming south-easterly in the evening.

Kwazulu-Natal:

Temperature: Partly cloudy and warm but hot in places over the interior, with isolated showers and thundershowers except in the north-east, but scattered in the west.

Wind: The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh northerly to north-easterly.

The expected UVB Sunburn Index: Moderate.
