Severe Weather Alerts

IMPACT-BASED WARNINGS:

A. A Yellow Level 2 warning: Severe thunderstorms with possible damaging winds, heavy downpours leading to localised flooding of low-lying bridge, settlements, roads as well as damage to infrastructure expected over KwaZulu-Natal and Eastern Cape.

B. A Yellow Level 4 warning: severe thunderstorms resul- ting in flash-flooding and large amounts of small hail are expected over the central and north-eastern parts of Western Cape and extreme southern parts of Northern Cape.

C. An Orange Level 6 warning: Severe thunderstorms resul- ting in flash-flooding and large amounts of small hail are expected over the eastern parts of Western Cape and the coastal areas of the western half of Eastern Cape.

D. A Yellow level 1 warning: Waves resulting in localised damage to coastal infrastructure between Cape Columbine and Plettenberg Bay from tomorrow afternoon until the evening.

Extremely uncomfortable conditions are expected over the Bergrivier municipality of Western Cape.

Temperature and UVB forecast

Gauteng:

Temperature: Partly cloudy in the south-west, otherwise cloudy and warm with scattered showers and thundershowers.

The expected UVB Sunburn Index: Extreme.

Mpumalanga:

Temperature: Hot to very hot in the Lowveld, otherwise cloudy and cool to warm, with scattered showers and thundershowers but widespread over the south-east.

Limpopo:

Temperature: Cloudy and warm to hot with scattered showers and thundershowers.

North-West Province:

Temperature: Partly cloudy and warm with scattered showers and thundershowers, but isolated in the extreme west.

Free State:

Temperature: Morning fog patches in the east, otherwise partly cloudy and cool to warm, with scattered showers and thundershowers but isolated in places in the west.

Northern Cape:

Temperature: Partly cloudy and cool to warm with isolated showers and thundershowers, except over the central parts but scattered over the extreme southern parts.

Wind: The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh southerly to south-westerly.

Western Cape:

Temperature: Cloudy along the south coast, otherwise partly cloudy and cool to warm, with scattered to widespread showers and thundershowers, but isolated in the extreme west.

Wind: The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh southerly to south-easterly but strong at times between Cape Columbine and Plettenberg Bay.

The expected UVB Sunburn Index: Very High.

Eastern Cape:

The Western half – Cloudy and cool with widespread showers and thundershowers.

The Western half -Wind: The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh southerly TO south-easterly.

The Eastern half -Cloudy and cool with widespread showers and thundershowers.

The Eastern halfWind: The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh southwesterly becoming moderate south-westerly in the afternoon.

Kwazulu-Natal:

Temperature: Morning fog patches over the interior, otherwise cloudy with widespread showers and thundershowers, but scattered along the coast.

Wind: The wind along the coast will be fresh to strong northerly to north-easterly north of Richards Bay until midday, otherwise south-westerly

The expected UVB Sunburn Index: Moderate.
