Severe Weather Alerts

IMPACT-BASED WARNINGS:

A. Yellow level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms which can possibly lead to large amounts of small hail, strong winds and excessive lightning and flooding of some roads is expected in places over Gauteng, North West, Free State except the eastern parts, western parts and escarpment of Mpumalanga as well as the north eastern parts of the Northern Cape.

B. Yellow level 2 Warning for Wind leading to difficulty in navigation at sea is expected between Dassen Island and Hermanus when build-up of sand is possible on the False Bay coastal routes.

FIRE DANGER WARNINGS:

Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected over the Kamiesberg municipality of the Northern Cape and entire West Coast district Western Cape.

ADVISORIES:

Heat wave with persistently high temperatures for the Nama Khoi, Kamiesberg Municipalities over the Northern Cape and Matzikama Municipality over the Western Cape until Sunday.

Temperature and UVB forecast

Gauteng:

Temperature: Cloudy and cool with scattered showers and thundershowers.

The expected UVB Sunburn Index: High.

Mpumalanga:

Temperature: Cloudy and cool with isolated showers and thundershowers but scattered in the central and south-western parts.

Limpopo:

Temperature: Cloudy and cool to warm with isolated showers and thundershowers but scattered in the southern parts.4. NORTH-WEST PROVINCE: Partly cloudy and warm with scattered showers and thundershowers.

North-West Province:

Temperature: Partly cloudy and warm, with scattered showers and thundershowers.

Free State:

Temperature: Morning fog patches in the east at first, otherwise partly cloudy and cool to warm, with scattered showers and thundershowers but isolated along the Lesotho boarder.

Northern Cape:

Temperature: Partly cloudy and warm to hot but very hot over the interior, with isolated showers and thundershowers but scattered in the north-eastern parts. It will be fine in the south-west.

Wind: The wind along the coast will be Moderate to fresh southerly to south-easterly.

Western Cape:

Temperature: Partly cloudy along the south coast in the morning, otherwise fine and warm along the south coast, otherwise hot to very hot but extremely hot over the West Coast District interior.

Wind: The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh easterly along the south coast, otherwise south-easterly to southerly but strong to near gale along the south-west coast.

The expected UVB Sunburn Index: Extreme.

Eastern Cape:

The Western half – Partly cloudy in places at first, otherwise fine and warm.

The Western half -Wind: The wind along the coast will be Light to moderate north-easterly, becoming moderate to fresh easterly from late morning.

The Eastern half -Fine along the escarpment, otherwise cloudy and cool but warm in places, clearing in the west. Isolated thundershowers are expected in places over the northern interior.

The Eastern halfWind: The wind along the coast will be light to moderate north-easterly, but fresh in the afternoon.

Kwazulu-Natal:

Temperature: Morning fog patches in places over the interior, otherwise cloudy to partly cloudy and cool but warm in places in the east. Isolated showers and thundershowers are expected.

Wind: The wind along the coast will be moderate southerly to south-easterly becoming easterly to north-easterly from the south.

The expected UVB Sunburn Index: Low.
