Severe Weather Alerts

IMPACT-BASED WARNINGS:

A.Yellow Level 2 Warning for Severe Thunderstorms resulting in localised flooding of low susceptible formal/informal settlements and roads, and large amounts of small hail, and excessive lightning causing localised damages to property, are expected in places over Gauteng, Limpopo, of Mpumalanga, eastern parts of the Free State and North West Province extending to central and northern KwaZulu-Natal.

B. Orange Level 5 Warning for Severe Thunderstorms resulting in flooding of roads, settlements and low-lying areas, resulting in closure of bridges and roads, large amounts of small hail that could damage vehicles, and excessive lightning causing danger to life and could damage property, strong winds that could could damage formal and informal houses or structures over the north-eastern interior of KwaZulu-Natal and the highveld of Mpumalanga.

FIRE DANGER WARNINGS:

Conditions favorable for the development of veld fires are expected in places in the interior of Northern Cape, west of North West Province and north of Free State.

Temperature and UVB forecast

Gauteng:

Temperature: Partly cloudy and warm with scattered showers and thundershowers.

The expected UVB Sunburn Index: Extreme.

Mpumalanga:

Temperature: Partly cloudy and warm to hot with widespread showers and thundershowers but scattered in the Lowveld.

Limpopo:

Temperature: Partly cloudy and warm to hot becoming cloudy in the evening, with isolated showers and thundershowers but scattered in the west and central parts. It will be widespread in the south.

North-West Province:

Temperature: Partly cloudy and warm with isolated showers and thundershowers, but scattered in the east.

Free State:

Temperature: Partly cloudy and cool to warm with isolated showers and thundershowers, but scattered in the east.

Northern Cape:

Temperature: Partly cloudy and warm with isolated showers and thundershowers in the east, but fine over the western interior.

Wind: The wind along the coast will be fresh to strong southerly to south-easterly.

Western Cape:

Temperature: Fine over the western parts in the morning, otherwise partly cloudy and cool to warm, but cloudy along the south coast from the afternoon. Very isolated showers and thundershowers are possible over the extreme eastern parts at first.

Wind: The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh south to south-westerly, but south-easterly along the south-west coast at first.

The expected UVB Sunburn Index: Extreme.

Eastern Cape:

The Western half – Cloudy and cool with scattered showers and thundershowers, but widespread in the south-east.

The Western half -Wind: The wind along the coast will be moderate south-easterly east of Cannon Rocks at first, otherwise moderate to fresh south-westerly reaching strong at times.

The Eastern half -Cloudy in places, otherwise partly cloudy and cool with scattered showers and thundershowers, but widespread in the south-west.

The Eastern halfWind: The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh north-easterly, becoming fresh to strong south-westerly from the south late morning.

Kwazulu-Natal:

Temperature: Morning Fog patches are expected over the interior. Partly cloudy to cloudy and warm with scattered showers and thundershowers but widespread in the north.

Wind: The wind along the coast will be Moderate to fresh northerly to north-easterly, becoming fresh south-westerly from the extreme south in the afternoon, spreading to Richards bay in the evening.

The expected UVB Sunburn Index: Moderate.
