Severe Weather Alerts

IMPACT-BASED WARNINGS:

A. Yellow Level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms with excessive lightning and possible heavy downpours resulting in localised flooding of susceptible formal/ informal settlements and roads, low-lying areas and bridges, as well as excessive lightning expected over the central parts of Limpopo and the northern parts of Mpumalanga Highveld.

FIRE DANGER WARNINGS:

1. Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected over the southern parts of the City of Cape Town municipality and Kamiesberg municipality in the Northern Cape.

ADVISORIES:

1.Very cold conditions are expected in places over the eastern interior of the Eastern Cape Province.

Temperature and UVB forecast

Gauteng:

Temperature: Partly cloudy and warm with scattered showers and thundershowers from the afternoon.

The expected UVB Sunburn Index: Very High

Mpumalanga:

Temperature: Cloudy in the east, otherwise partly cloudy and cool with scattered showers and thundershowers but widespread in the northern parts of the Highveld.

Limpopo:

Temperature: Cloudy and cool to warm with scattered showers and thundershowers, but widespread in the central and western parts.

North-West Province:

Temperature: Partly cloudy and warm with isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers in the east.

Free State:

Temperature: Partly cloudy and warm with isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers in the east.

Northern Cape:

Temperature: Fine and cool to warm, but partly cloudy in the east where it will be hot in places.

Wind: The wind along the coast will be light and variable until the afternoon where it will become moderate to fresh southerly to south-easterly reaching strong towards the evening.

Western Cape:

Temperature: Fine in the west, otherwise partly cloudy and cool to warm but hot in the north-west with isolated showers in the extreme eastern parts of the south coast in the morning.

Wind: The wind along the coast will be light to moderate south-westerly in the eastern parts of the south coast at first, otherwise moderate to fresh south-easterly but strong in the west, spreading to the south coast by the evening.

The expected UVB Sunburn Index: Extreme.

Eastern Cape:

The Western half –Cloudy and cool with light rain, but scattered showers and rain along the coast and adjacent interior. It will become fine in the north by the afternoon.

The Western half -Wind: The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh south-westerly, becoming south-easterly from late morning.

The Eastern half -Cool in places, otherwise cloudy and cold with scattered showers and rain, but isolated showers and thundershowers north of the escarpment.

The Eastern halfWind: The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh south-westerly, becoming south-easterly in the afternoon.

Kwazulu-Natal:

Temperature: Cloudy and cool with scattered showers and rain.

Wind: The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh south-westerly, becoming moderate south-easterly in the afternoon.

The expected UVB Sunburn Index: Moderate.
