Severe Weather Alerts

IMPACT-BASED WARNINGS:

A Yellow Level 1 Warning for Damaging Winds resulting in localised disruptions to beachfront activities such as rock angling, is expected between Alexander Bay and Cape Agulhas.

FIRE DANGER WARNINGS:

Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected in places over the Frances Baard and John Taolo Gaetsewe District Municipalities, Pixely Ka Seme, Nama Khoi, Kamiesberg and Hantam municipalities of Northern Cape as w well as the Xhariep district Municipality of Free State and Walter Sisulu Local Municipality of Eastern Cape.

ADVISORIES:

A. A heat wave with persistently high temperatures is expected over the the central and eastern parts of Northern, north-eastern parts of Eastern Cape and Free State except in the north-east until Monday.

B. Extremely hot and uncomfortable conditions are expected over the over the Khai-Ma Municipality of the Northern Cape until Sunday.

Temperature and UVB forecast

Gauteng:

Temperature: Fine and warm.

The expected UVB Sunburn Index: Extreme.

Mpumalanga:

Temperature: Fine over the Highveld, otherwise partly cloudy and warm with evening fog along the escarpment. It will be hot in the Lowveld.

Limpopo:

Temperature: Partly cloudy and warm with isolated showers and rain in the north-east. I will be hot over the Lowveld and Limpopo Valley.

North-West Province:

Temperature: Fine and hot but partly cloudy in the extreme west.

Free State:

Temperature: Fine and hot to very hot, becoming partly cloudy in the south, with isolated showers and thundershowers.

Northern Cape:

Temperature: Extremely hot in the northern interior, otherwise partly cloudy and hot to very hot with isolated showers and thundershowers in the south-east. It will be fine in the extreme west.

Wind: The wind along the coast will be fresh to strong southerly to south-westerly

Western Cape:

Temperature: Fine in the west, otherwise partly cloudy and warm to hot, but cloudy and cool along the south coast with a chance of light showers and rain at times.

Wind: The wind along the coast will be fresh to strong southerly to south-easterly.

The expected UVB Sunburn Index: Extreme.

Eastern Cape:

The Western half – Cloudy and cool south of the escarpment, otherwise partly cloudy and warm to hot with isolated showers and thundershowers.

The Western half -Wind: The wind along the coast will be light to moderate south-easterly.

The Eastern half – Morning fog over the interior, otherwise partly cloudy and hot with isolated showers and thundershowers, but cloudy and warm along the coast and adjecent interior.

The Eastern halfWind: The wind along the coast will be light to moderate southerly to south-easterly.

Kwazulu-Natal:

Temperature: Morning fog over the interior, otherwise fine and warm to hot becoming partly cloudy in the south by the afternoon with isolated showers and thundershowers.

Wind: The wind along the coast will be moderate easterly to north-easterly.

The expected UVB Sunburn Index: Extreme.
