The Madikwe Game Reserve largely caters for the discerning safari-goer looking for an exclusive, private experience away from the crowds. Entry-level accommodation would be the eco bush camp. There are luxury and uber-luxury accommodation, those suited to families, groups and conferences, luxury self-catering and exclusive use lodges for those looking for complete privacy. Here are a few options to choose from:
Lodges
The stylish Thakadu River Camp is a luxury favourite for its serene setting on the Marico River. The 12 on-site tented suites are ideal for all types of guests, from families to honeymooners. The treetop lodges discreetly blend into the surroundings and the suites have a unique Afro-Asian style. Guests can enjoy guided birding, stargazing, bush dining or a spa treatment on the deck. It’s also a wholly-owned, community-based safari camp that substantially benefits the community.
Mosetlha Bush Camp is a family-owned eco-camp. The unfenced camp offers accommodation for a maximum of 16 guests in nine charming safari-style raised wooden chalets with twin beds. The cabins are partly open on the side, so you can have the experience of sleeping under the stars while still having a roof over your head! The cabins are clustered around a central campfire and lapa area. Cabins are not en-suite but bathrooms (safari showers with hot water from donkey boilers) are discreetly situated between cabins. All meals are prepared on an open fire with potjie pots and braai grids – traditional and delicious
If you prefer the exclusivity of having your own space and the option to self-cater, Rock Fig Lodge is for you. Modern and luxurious suites and chalets sleep from two to six guests, some with private decks, splash pools and swimming pools.
