What to do in Hartbeespoort

Whether you want to spend your day out on the water, up in the skies or visiting the animal sanctuaries in the area, Hartbeespoort has something for everyone.

Harties Aerial Cableway 

Why you should experience it: Constructed in 1973, the Hartbeespoort aerial cableway stretches 1.2km to the top of the Magaliesberg and provides extensive views of the Harties Dam, Magaliesberg and surrounding areas. Also the longest mono-cableway in Africa, it’s open seven days a week and is weather permitting. 

How much does it cost: Tickets cost R240 per adult and R150 per child aged four to 14.

Hot air ballooning

Why you should experience it: Take to the skies to enjoy an experience like no other in a hot air balloon flight. Run by many reputable companies in the area, hot air ballooning is an exceptional way to take in the scenery around Hartbeespoort. Harties Watersports Centre

Why you should experience it: Situated inside the Hartbeespoort Animal and Snake Park, the Harties Watersports Centre offers several water sporting activities such as tube rides, speed boat cruises, jet ski hire and wake snakes. Perfect for any adrenaline junkie. For a more serene experience, embark on one of their Ferry boat cruises, ideal for families and kids.

Visit the Monkey and Elephant sanctuaries

Why you should visit: The monkey and elephant sanctuaries are the perfect places to visit if you want to interact with wildlife during your visit to Harties. The Bush Baby and Monkey sanctuary offers guided tours of the natural environment where a range of species of monkeys live in freedom. The Elephant Sanctuary offers intimate, interactive elephant experiences that you’d be hard-pressed to find anywhere else. 

How much does it cost: Monkey Sanctuary rates are R370 per adult and R205 per child. The Elephant Sanctuary interaction experiences cost R850 per adult and R375 per child.

How to get there: Both Sanctuaries are located in Zandfontein. Find the Monkey Sanctuary at R104 Old Rustenburg Road Zandfontein, Hartbeespoort, and the Elephant Sanctuary at Dam, Zandfontein, Hartbeespoort.
