WEATHER: Light SNOWFALLS expected in these parts of SA

Shorts and slops or an umbrella? Here’s what the weather holds for every province in South Africa on Tuesday, 26 September 2023.

Severe weather alerts

IMPACT-BASED WARNINGS:

A. Orange Level 6 warning for damaging winds and waves leading to disruption of ports and small harbours is expected between Plettenberg and Durban.

B. An orange Level 9 warning for disruptive rain is expected over the south-western parts of the Eastern Cape Province and the adjacent interior.

C. Yellow level 2 warning for damaging interior winds are expected over parts of the western interior of the Eastern Cape, resulting in minor disruptions to transport routes and travel services affected by wind, falling trees or dust storms.

D. Yellow level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms are expected over the eastern parts of Limpopo and Mpumalanga, resulting localised flooding in susceptible areas, roads and bridges, damaging winds and difficult driving conditions due to poor visibility.

Gauteng

Temperature: Partly cloudy in the morning, otherwise fine and warm.

The expected UVB Sunburn Index: Extreme.

Mpumalanga

Temperature: Fine in the extreme west, otherwise partly and warm, but hot in the Lowveld with isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers.

Limpopo

Temperature: Fine in the extreme south-west, otherwise Partly and warm, but hot in the Lowveld with isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers.

North West

Temperature: Cloudy, becoming partly cloudy and cool to warm.

Free State

Temperature: Cloudy, becoming partly cloudy, windy and cold to cool with isolated showers and thundershowers over the southern parts.

Northern Cape

Temperature: Fine in the extreme west, otherwise partly cloudy and cool but cold in the south with isolated showers and thundershowers in the extreme south-east where it will be cloudy.

Wind: The wind along the coast will be fresh to strong southerly to south-easterly.

Western Cape

Temperature: Cloudy and cold to cool with isolated showers in the east, otherwise partly cloudy.

Wind: The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh southerly to southeasterly along the south-west coast and fresh to strong east of Still Bay at first, otherwise light to moderate southerly to south-westerly.

The expected UVB Sunburn Index: Moderate.

Eastern Cape

The Western half: Cloudy and cool with scattered showers and thundershowers, but widespread along the coast and adjacent interior. Light snowfalls are expected over the Sneeuberg mountain peaks.

The Western half – The wind along the coast will be Fresh to strong south-westerly.

The Eastern half: Cloudy and cool with scattered showers and thundershowers, but widespread in the extreme south-west. Light snowfalls are expected over the southern Drakensberg Mountain peaks.

The Eastern half – Wind: The wind along the coast will be Fresh to strong south-westerly.

KwaZulu-Natal

Temperature: Partly cloudy and cool, but warm in the north. It will become cloudy with isolated showers and thundershowers over the northern parts in the afternoon.

Wind: The wind along the coast will be Moderate northerly north of Richards Bay at first, otherwise moderate to fresh southerly to south-westerly, becoming strong from late afternoon.

The expected UVB Sunburn Index: High.
